-Rant-
Only in America can a football star be tried for murder twice and end up with a $3.5 million book deal. According to the MSNBC article, OJ Simpson has been given a book deal that is tentatively titled If I Did It. The book will begin with details of the relationship between Simpson and his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson. From there he will go into what he feels is the “hypothetical” scenerio in which Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were murdered. Again I say, only in the good ‘ole USA can a man like Simpson be found innocent only to turn around and make millions of dollars off of it.

Lucky for me, I found an article that is a total gem. In the same MSNBC article , Jeannette Walls quotes the National Enquirer article about the new OJ Simpson book with the following – “Simpson can never be retried for the murders because of double jeopardy laws, according to the Enquirer…”. Wait, did you just read that right? Yes you did. Instead of quoting the fifth amendment, I guess Walls just found it easier to quote the National Enquirer. I know this might sound like a rant but I can assure you it is not. This is a good thing. If she can write for MSNBC and quote a tabloid instead of the US Constitution, I am going to do just fine.
So…does anyone know if MSNBC is hiring?

Gotta love the OJ Simpson cutting knife set. Now that is great. Maybe I should register for those for a wedding present. Do you know where I can get my hands on those?
A couple things to consider about the OJ trial
It is very easy for people to look at exteriors and pass judgment on something they did not, like the jury did, sit in on and listen to every testimony, every word, and see every piece of evidence. I think that the jury in the case, who literally spent their lives doing nothing but being jurors during this time, are much more fitting to pass judgment than the public who heard snippets from the news while we were eating dinner and doing laundry.
He was tried in our system and found innocent. If he wants to write a book, what is the problem?
I feel that if someone has a problem with the outcome of the case, they had better research it all, read all the dictation and make an informed decision- not a decision based on national news coverage with zero first hand interaction with the facts.
And secondly, if one has a problem with the OJ trial, shouldn’t their problem lie with the entire legal system?
I find myself guilty of saying “what a bunch of BS” for things such as these- the OJ trial and what not- but then again, what the hell do I know about it?
Do you think you would be justified in making an assumption about say- the existence of black holes- after hearing about them on the news for a few weeks? Wouldn’t you want to do some research, read some books, and listen to some lectures on the topic first?
